Reebok’s latest release got us hyped for 2023
Since purchasing the brand from adidas in 2021, Reebok has been pumping (pun intended) the sneaker scene with bangers from their rich archive. Whether it was PEs that were never released to the public (Question) or special collaborations with notable icons in pop culture (Jurassic World Dominion, DC, Looney Tunes), Reebok’s etched out a piece of real estate in this busy sneaker landscape. If that weren’t enough, they’ve also brought out their key silhouettes that continue to be relevant to this day (read: My Name Is collection).
This May, Reebok comes in hot, this time bringing out a special colorway of MY favorite hoop shoe from Reebok in the 90s – the Blast.
For those too young to remember, the Blast debuted during the 1995/96 season along with the Kamikaze 2 and Shaqnosis as part of the Mobius Collection. Back then, hoop sneakers were still predominantly black or white and Reebok got really creative with it and did 50/50 counter blocking on the pack. With the ‘Blast’ emanating from the heel, Nick ‘the Quick’ Van Exel wore the shoe on court and seemed like he was lightning quick with that on shoe effect.
Today, the Blast returns, this time coming in Lakers’ colors on white. With a resurgence of 90s sneakers, the Blast is definitely worth adding to the collection, especially if you’re a fan of the Purple and Gold.
The Blast ‘Lakers’ drops today, May 2nd, at Reebok (SM Megamall), reebok.ph and select Sports Central stores for Php 8,295. If you’re not so hot on the pair, check out the rest of Reebok’s recent releases below.
