THE BOING IS BACK: The Nike Shox Gravity is here

Posted on Jul 26, 2018 in Nike

It took a while but we’re glad that the Boing is Back.

Back in the 80’s, Nike worked on several projects with the hopes of optimizing energy return. From adding metal springs, hinges and foam columns, the design team worked on finding the balance of cushioning and stability. In 1997, twin plates and foam columns gave birth to the original Nike Shox that would eventually drop in 2000. Whether it was the R4 (running), Shox XT (training) or the BB4 (basketball), the world was all about the Boing.

In 2017, the trio of Aaron Cooper, Greg Thompson and Brian Farris decided to pitch a project that would spell the return of the Nike Shox system. The team wanted to introduce a specific in-shoe experience that was a mix between weightlessness and replicating the feel one gets when they’re on a skateboard. With the new learnings and the desired experience in mind, the team was able to give us the latest iteration of the Nike Shox — the Nike Shox Gravity.

“We’ve created an amazing underfoot experience combined with great fit and containment in the upper,” says Thompson. “It definitely provides a more well-rounded experience than any of the previous models.”

The Nike Shox Gravity features a mix of Foam cushioning and a new Nike Shox system that delivers lightweight responsiveness.  The one-piece bootie construction provides proper containment with the help of the shoe’s unique lacing system. The rubber outsole offers superior traction both on and off the road.

The Nike Shox Gravity is now available in White/Obsidian/Metallic Silver colorway, reminiscent of the BB4 Vince Carter wore during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The Nike Shox Gravity retails for Php 7,645 and is now available at Capital (Glorietta/Trinoma) and Sole Academy.
