New: Nike officially opens The Courtyard in Manila
With the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup happening in a couple of weeks, Nike just opened an outdoor court in Manila to give the local community a place to call home.
Dubbed as ‘The Courtyard’, the new court is located in BGC, serving as a hangout sport and sports hub for hoop heads from all over. Covering 2,182 square meters, the space includes two full-size basketball courts made of Nike Grind and one half-court training area intended for practice shooting. Weekly pickup games and regular camps will be led by Nike coaches while Nike members can book some time for the court through the Nike app. These programs and camps are offered for free all year round.
To further group the community, Nike is partnering with Girls Got Game Philippines, a local nonprofit that aims to empower young women through sport. “Her Hoops” is a weekly program made exclusively for women. As part of the coaching camps, Nike will organize athlete skills camps, prime-time pickup games, and shoe trialing for the basketball campers.
“Having this court here in the heart of Metro Manila is huge,” says Xavier Nunag, Commissioner of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. “It’s different when you play alone in your barangay. Playing here gives you the prime-time feeling that you’re part of Filipino basketball culture.”
The Courtyard’s design is created by local artist Kiefer Indiongco, and inspired by the vibrant festivities of the Philippines and the country’s love for the game. The design features traditional patterns weaved together with basketball symbols to celebrate the everyday player in Manila. Drop by the Courtyard and book your slot to play hoops in the heart of Manila.
