New: Nike debuts the best Pegasus to date – the Pegasus 42

Posted on Feb 24, 2026 in Nike

If you thought the Pegasus 41 was an absolute workhorse, wait ’til you try this – the Pegasus 42.

For over 40 years, NIke’s built their running foundation on the success of the Pegasus and this latest iteration just might be the best ever, providing the runner with an all-around, intuitive, and lightweight shoe offering Air technology with the right maximum responsiveness and comfort.

While the Pegasus 41 received rave reviews all around for its performance, the Pegasus 42 improves on it, providing 15% greater energy return, powered by its curved full-length Air Zoom unit. The improved Air unit is designed for maximum responsiveness.

“I grew up in a running specialty store and have seen the deep passion and love for the Pegasus franchise,” says Ethan Strand, Nike athlete and NCAA indoor 3,000-meter champion. “The Pegasus 42 is an exciting evolution –– one that feels familiar, but with an improved ride. When I take it for runs, I can feel the Air underfoot, which gives me more power in every stride.”

Nike’s design team modified the shoe’s last for a more accommodating fit and improved cushioning at the forefoot. This gives you – the runner – that propulsive feeling without the stiffness usually felt with a plate underfoot. The curved Zoom Air unit works in conjunction with a plush ReactX foam at the midsole, and completed with a modernized waffle outsole for smoother transitions across varying surfaces.

In terms of fit, a midfoot support system and fully molded sock liner provide a more comfortable and secure fit, while the lightweight breathable upper conforms to the runner’s foot.

The Pegasus 42’s comes with sleeker midsole, a speed dash treatment across the upper and updated Pegasus branding, all coming in new colorways this season.

“We’ve taken what runners have always loved about the Pegasus franchise and turned it into the best version yet with the Pegasus 42,” says Elliott Heath, senior footwear expert, Nike Running. “This shoe provides a balance of consistent elements that look and feel connected to its legacy, coupled with new innovation to make it even more iconic, in a Nike-only way.”

NIke’s road running lineup provides runners with cushioning across varying foot types. The Pegasus, which debuted back in 1982, offers responsive cushioning for all-day energy return. The Vomero offers maximum comfort, while the Structure provides supportive cushioning for a more stable ride.

The Nike Pegasus 42 will be available April 9 at nike.com and select retail partners with the shoe retailing for Php 7,645
