New: Nike Basketball officially unveil the Ja 2 in time for the new season
Ja’s been waiting. He’s been itching to get this season going.
With the prolonged break due to the suspension and season-ending injury, Ja Morant and Nike Basketball officially unveil the next shoe in the line – the Ja 2. Nike’s designers made sure the 2 capitalized on the first shoe by creating a shoe that maximizes comfort and support, especially for a full season of takeoffs, landings, and lateral movement.
“From the Ja 1 to the Ja 2, the core things remain the same. The work ethic doesn’t change,” Morant says. “It’s about comfort, more bounce and bringing my fans into some different storytelling they may not know. We tell those stories through the colorways of my shoe.”
In terms of what’s under the hood, the Ja 2 still utilizes a forefoot Zoom Air unit for extra bounce and help with players who shift endlessly on court. The midfoot panel drives lockdown responsiveness and control. The traction pattern takes inspiration from the semitrailer tires Ja used to train with back in the day. The Ja 2 also has a sidewall guardrail to help protect and stabilize players, while the waterfall-inspired collar lining and ankle padding add comfort. Lastly, ballistic mesh is utilized on the upper for better breathability.
The ‘Purple Sky’ colorway is inspired by watching Morant in action – with his high-flying stunts, ball handling skills and intense energy on court – is as mesmerizing as looking up at a purple night sky. The shoe also reflects on Morant’s story as a person and player – about his roots, his connection to the next generation and his drive to get up after getting knocked down.
Along with the Ja 2, Nike is also releasing a new apparel collection from tees, hoodies and pants. The Ja 2 will also be available in kids’ sizing across footwear and apparel.
The Nike Ja 2 will be available on SNKRS and in select markets September 26. The silhouette and apparel collection will be available globally at nike.com and select retailers October 8.
