Don’t look now, but the Nike x Off-White Rubber Dunk is here
After teasing us as early as February of this year, Virgil Abloh and Nike’s set to drop the Nike x Off-White Rubber Dunk in a couple of days.
While the Dunk has been killing it across the board, Virgil takes elements of both the Dunk and the Nike Pegasus, giving us a fresh take on the brand’s technical innovation and skateboarding’s history of experimentation.
“Highlighting the Air is part of the early logic of the collaboration,” says Virgil Abloh. “The shoe is about incorporating past ideas in a new era — designing with purpose and cultural relevance to come up with something new.”
With skateboarding initially set to debut during the Tokyo Olympics, Abloh takes that and pin points key moments in sport, the same way we saw Michael Johnson’s gold spikes during the Atlanta Games.

While the original Dunk didn’t have an exposed Air bag in the heel, that’s where the Rubber Dunk moves forward. The Air unit is found on its cored-out sole, while theupper takes designs from the Pegasus designs of the late 90s and early 2000s. For its colorways, the Rubber Dunk is presented in three versions with references to different eras. The gold celebrates Atlanta ’96 directly, the white is homage to general release color schemes of the 2000s and the black, well, says Abloh, “A black sneaker is my go-to for everyday life.”
