New Balance welcomes 2021 with the 57/40
While most of us agree that New Balance won 2020 in terms of their collaborations (Casablanca, Joe Freshgoods, WTAPS, etc) and product releases (327, 992, 1300, the Kawhi, TDS, etc), looks like NB isn’t pulling any punches for 2021 either. To kick things off, New Balance brings us the 57/40, a reimaging of the iconic 574.
The 57/40 is definitely a fresh take on the iconic 574 we all grew up with and this is definitely a nod to the 5xx franchise altogether. The shoe’s upper gives you that 80s meets 90s look, while keeping the most notable designs of the 574 intact, keeping the silhouette’s DNA in place.
Similar to the 327, the N logo stands out, while the CR device is reimagined, albeit exaggerated, making the shoe stand out even further with its color blocking. The sole unit comes stacked one with a wider, wavy design reminiscent of the shoes from the 90s as it sits on top of the more traditional 574 midsole. The enlarged rugged outsole is a call back to the trail heritage of the 574.
Just like the more recent hybrid releases, the tongue features the ‘The Intelligent Choice’ label. New Balance used a lot of different materials for the 57/40’s upper, using a mix of leather, suede, and mesh set against black or white.
The New Balance 57/40 comes in two colorways and will drop next Friday, February 12 exclusively at Commonwealth. The shoe retails for Php 6,295 and will be available in very limited quantities.
