New Balance blesses Margie Didal and her humble beginnings with her own special 272

Puso!

Normally, when you see or hear that four-letter word, you’d think of the Philippines’ battlecry on the hardwood. In the streets and sideroads of Cebu, “puso” also refers to our heart, but is said differently and refers to the rice snack intricately woven in coconut leaves. To NB rider/international skateboarder and recent Olympian Margie Didal, puso means so much more than the rice snack.

Growing up, Didal used to sell ‘puso’ with her mom along the streets of Cebu. As fate would have it, they were actually selling them right next to a skatepark. If you think about it, that’s how Margie discovered skateboarding. New Balance Numeric (the brand’s skateboarding division) and Didal took inspiration fromthe puso to create a special signature colorway for the 272, the latest model in the brand’s skateboarding line.

The ‘Margie’ 272 features a woven-like suede quarter panel that resembles the intricate weave when creating the puso. The tan-colored heel tabs also feature Margie’s initials (M.A.D.) and her area code (032), while the insoles feature the puso, to give everyone a better idea as to what these rice snacks look like.

The Margie Didal x New Balance 272 is set to drop next Friday, October 22 and will retail for Php 4,495. The shoe will be available at New Balance (Glorietta, Rockwell, Trinoma), The Athlete’s Foot (Glorietta, Robinsons Ermita), New Balance LazMall, and Common Ground (Cebu).
