Dropping Soon: New Balance x Stone Island FuelCell RC Elite v2
After teasing the collaboration a few months back, we’re finally getting more details on the drop for the Stone Island x New Balance release before we end 2021. For those keeping tabs on the project, Stone Island linked up with New Balance’s Tokyo Design Studio for their upcoming release. Veering away from the traditional lifestyle shoe collab, Stone Island and NB decided to use a performance running shoe — the New Balance FuelCell RC Elite v2. We expected nothing less from the collaboration, and it’s definitely a breath of fresh air to see something new.
Looking at the partnership closer, the two brands share similar values when it comes to research and functionality in their respective fields. What we normally don’t see here is that their innovation is based on data-driven design. In the case of the FuelCell RC Elite v2, the upper is highly breathable, featuring elements of both brands fused into the design. Aside from 3D screen printed design, the shoe also features NB’s FuelCell technology on its midsole. The shoe also features a carbon fiber plate, offering the user high energy return with propulsive transition and 360-degree functionality for all types of runners and surfaces.
While the key elements are based within NB’s performance team, New Balance’s Tokyo Design Studio kept tabs on the project, making sure quality and craftsmanship stays true to the brand’s rich history. That way, the collaboration gets the best of both worlds with their project.
“TDS believes that the most dangerous thing is avoiding challenges for fear of failure. We don’t believe in setting limits but instead, actively pursue challenges. Our designs and products are deeply connected to people’s movements and way of life. Quality is intimately connected to the impact we have on people’s lifestyles,” says Shugo Moritani, Creative Design Manager at New Balance’s Toyko Design Studio.
