LACOSTE and mastermind JAPAN unveil their ‘Underground Tennis’ Collection
After working with Supreme, A Bathing Ape, and Golf le FLEUR for previous collections, LACOSTE recently linked up with mastermind JAPAN for their ‘Underground Tennis’ Collection.
With more traditional brand houses crossing over with the likes of streetwear brands like mastermind JAPAN, the capsule features polos, tees, hoodies as well as footwear, all made in Japan. The entire collection goes for a more subdued look, with the entire range done in black and white. Simply put, LACOSTE wants to make it known that street tennis is everywhere.
For those not so familiar with the brand, mastermind JAPAN was founded by Masaaki Homma back in 1997, with its trademark skulls and bones logo ever present throughout the brand’s two+ decade tenure. mastermind JAPAN’s been know for their premium fabrics and superior Japanese craftsmanship. Both brands aim to bring Japanese craftsmanship and French athleisure to streetwear.
Doing away with the traditional green croc, a black croc was designed for this collaboration, as seen on the chest of each piece. mastermind’s skull and bones logo can be seen on the neck of their shirts and polos, or on top of the hoodies. To add more detail, a D-ring is found on the back of the polos.
In terms of footwear, LACOSTE uses their Carnaby silhouette. Premium leather uppers are enhanced with a leather collar and tongue to go with the laser-cut croc on the side panels. mastermind’s skull can be seen on the shoe’s heel counter and throat. The tongue features both brands’ logos while the insoles feature an underground tennis court-inspired tread that also feature the co-branded logos. The shoes come in both white and black.
