Jordan brings Tinker’s sketch to life 30 years after

Posted on Mar 22, 2018 in Jordan Brand

It was 1987 and Michael was two years into his partnership with Nike. He wasn’t too happy with his shoes and was just ready to leave the brand. Phil Knight handed the reins to Tinker Hatfield to pitch Jordan’s third signature, and hopefully salvage the relationship moving forward. Hatfield spoke to MJ and tried to get the most out of him in terms of what he wanted. As they were about to present the Air Jordan III, Tinker pulled the cloth off to unveil a prototype pair, one that didn’t have a Swoosh and replaced the Wings logo for the now-iconic Jumpman.

Michael loved it.

From being late and disinterested, Michael was smiling, asking questions about the shoe, and basically engaged with Tinker and team Jordan. Unbeknownst to most, Hatfield’s original sketch actually had a Swoosh on the lateral side and NIKE embroidered on the medial size of the ankle collar.

Thirty years later, Jordan Brand decided to unearth this version of the Air Jordan III. Now dubbed the Air Jordan III “Tinker”, the shoe make its debut this Saturday, March 24. Titan offered an online raffle via their IG account, where customers and fans were notified via email on when to send in their entries. The Air Jordan III “Tinker” retails for Php 9,895.
