New: ASICS SportStyle debuts the GT-2160 at Paris Fashion Week

Posted on Jul 7, 2023 in Asics

Yes, Paris Fashion Week wears sneakers too.

While most sneaker enthusiasts would look at Paris Fashion Week as a ‘by-the-way’ or ‘oh, that’s cute’ moment, ASICS SportStyle vowed to change that when they debuted their latest silhouette – the ASICS SportStyle GT-2160. ASICS created a two-floor pop-up at Dover Street Market (DSM) to feature the shoe in collaboration with creatives and collectives such as Cecilie Bahnsen, DIME, HAL STUDIOS, and AIREI.

The GT-2160 pays homage to the GT-2000 that released in the early 2010s, keeping its classic shape but improving the silhouette for today’s modern aesthetic. Here’s a look at three upcoming collaborations we should keep our eyes on:

ASICS SportStyle GT-2160™ x Cecilie Bahnsen

Cecilie Bahnsen put a more modern yet feminine twist to the GT-2160. While the trainer stays true to it’s overall scuplting, Bahnsen turned the shoe to a modern-day Mary Jane hybrid. Coming in two contrasting colorways (metallic silver and gloss black), the shoe also features a semi-translucent floral mesh upper finished off with the velcro bow and two-eyelet lace set up.

Cecilie Bahnsen’s design took inspiration from the work of renowned Japanese photographer Takashi Homma, as seen on the display printed throughout her section. The ASICS SportStyle GT-2160 x Cecilie Bahnsen will be made available in the Philippines this November for Php 14,290.

ASICS GT 2160 x Dime

The Montreal-based brand is known for their humorous, graphic-driven skate fashion. For their rendition of the GT-2160, they’ve gone with more rugged and playful design. Going with a gradient mesh upper and midsole, it may seem plain at first but that’s where it stands out.

ASICS SportStyle GT-1130 x HAL STUDIOS

While the GT-2160 was the highlight of PFW, ASICS SportStyle also feautured another silhouette in their latest collection, the GEL-1130 with creative house HAL STUDIOS. Taking inspirations from various subcultures, this iteration is the third collaboration with ASICS, which focuses on the balance between fashion and function.

The different textures on the upper represent the world’s topography, mimicking the glaciers it’s dubbed to be. The black/white hits represent the black sand and snowy valleys. The ASICS SportStyle GEL-1130 x HAL STUDIOS is set to drop this August for Php 9,990.

A celebration of the human experience with AIREI

To round out the showcase, ASICS SportStyle also worked with LA-based brand AIREI. The limited eidtion version of the GT-2160. The shoe’s theme takes the AW2023 theme of ‘Refuge, Deluge, Transfuge’ which embodies the hero’s journey, pushing one to set out on their own adventure. You can only purchase the pair through the Crafts for Mind program, and is limited to only 50 pairs. The proceeds will go to Right to Play, an international non-profit that empowers the child uprising through play.
