New: ASICS launches the new METASPEED collection

It’s been a good couple of months since the Tokyo Marathon but it’s good to shed some light on some of the footwear ASICS debuted on their athletes. Among the many silhouettes the brand has released, ASICS showcased the METASPEED SKY PARIS and the METASPEED EDGE PARIS, both equipped with the most advanced technologies ASICS has to offer.

METASPEED first released back in 2021, with the two pairs focused on distinct running styles in mind. Whether its the runners’ stride or cadence, Dr. Masnori Sakaguchi (head researcher at the ASICS Institute of Sport Science) created the new pairs to best suit the runner:

“Based on your running style, if you are increasing the step length to increase speed, you should wear the METASPEED™ SKY PARIS. But on the other hand, if you are increasing the number of steps to increase speed, you should wear the METASPEED™ EDGE PARIS.”

The new METASPEED™ SKY PARIS and the METASPEED™ EDGE PARIS cater to STRIDE and CADENCE running styles respectively. These pairs help maintain the ideal posture and foot strike angle, allowing the runner to be more efficient. This year’s iteration were made to really feel these changes. Reducing the shoe’s weight by approximately 22g, the runners don lightweight and springy silhouettes. ASICS used the combination of the new MOTION WRAP UPPER 2.0 and FF TURBO PLUS midsole foam.

“We’ve updated almost all materials for lighter weight, higher bounce, and improved stability,” said Kenta Tateno, head of ASICS Corporation Performance Running Development Team. “Athletes’ feedback on this has been very positive and they have confidence that it’s the best shoe for marathons.”

The METASPEED™ SKY PARIS has a wider full-length carbon plate in the forefoot for better bounce, while the METASPEED™ EDGE PARIS remains ideal for cadence runners, seeing a more strategically placed carbon plate, an updated minimal design, and lighter weight.

“We are focusing on the performance of elite athletes. But at the same time, we are focusing on protection,” said Dr.Sakaguchi. “If we only focus on their performance, they may get injured. We are providing the best solution for performance as well as protection.”

The METASPEED™ SKY PARIS and the METASPEED™ EDGE PARIS shoes are now available for men and women from ASICS retail and online stores for Php 14,990.00.
