New: the adidas SPZL Spring/Summer 2024 collection is dropping soon
If you’ve been around the brand as long as I have, I’m sure you have encountered Gary Aspden and adidas Spezial. It’s been 10 years since the Spezial (SPZL) line first released and to celebrate the line’s 10th, Aspden and adidas created a collection retelling the special line through its past, present and future.
In terms of footwear, we’re getting the Gazelle SPZL in two colorways (black suede and white denim), a pair which also came out during the FW23 collection. adidas also added three new silhouettes – the Whitworth SPZL, which takes inspiration from various 80s runners. The Handball Pro SPZL takes design elements from another handball silhouette’s upper while sitting atop a rubber gum cupsole (this is slowly becoming a favorite next to the Whitworth). Lastly, the Moston Super SPZL is inspired by the adidas Artic (70s), but going against the line’s core colorblocking with its suede green uppers.
The last two pairs from the collection is the return of the Wensley SPZL (another favorite) as well as the adilette SPZL, which bodes well for these summer months.
While having quality footwear is a given with the SPZL line, the apparel pieces are my favorite. The Todmorden Smock makes a return from its initial 2021 release, now available in navy and white. A commemorative Mod Trefoil tee also comes as a highlight for the collection. SPZL also showcased two lightweight jackets – the Trentham and the Wingrove. The Angelzarke Track Top and Pants are also worth noting. But what works for the PH most especially are the Rossendale Short, Polo shirt, and Lytham tee.
To cap things off, SPZL also comes with notable accessories such as the Brinscall bag, Mod Trefoil cap, a sock 2-pack, and a Mod Trefoil towel.
The adidas Spezial SS24 collection will be releasing on the adidas app this Wednesday, April 24, exclusively for adiclub members (but seriously, just sign up for free to be a member). A limited set from the collection is also available now at atmos Manila.
