M is for MEISSEN: Porcelain maker Meissen joins the A-ZX Series this December

Posted on Dec 18, 2020 in Adidas

Last November, the A-ZX series released their collab with Pam Pam. Today, two icons of German manufacturing for this month’s release. adidas Originals and German porcelain maker Meissen create their rendition of the ZX 10,000 C.

Over the course of the last few decades, silhouettes made from adidas’ German factories have always been a testament of the brand’s craftsmanship. Taking inspiration from Meissen’s porcelain work, the ZX 10,000 C uses a floral print design on top of the white leather upper and midsole. Staying true to Meissen’s branding, the shoe’s upper, tongue, lace jewels and sockliners are unbranded (something you’d never expect in this brand-heavy industry), only with a subtle logo call up on the shoe’s sole.

Alongside the shoe’s release, adidas Originals and Meissen created a special 1 of 1 art piece – the ZX 8000 Porcelain. The hand-painted leather runner has hand-made Meissen porcelain overlays weighing exactly 950 grams. The shoe went up for auction this past week at New York auction house Sotheby’s. The shoe’s expected to draw up to $1M although we’ve yet to hear of the final auction price of this special sneaker.
