adidas brings the A-ZX series back for 2020

Posted on Aug 3, 2020 in Adidas

Superstars, Stan Smiths, Boost. For those fans of the Three Stripes, those easily come to mind when you say adidas. I like those silhouettes, but the ZX line has been my favorite ever since. The ZX line debuted in 1984 and has been the brand’s foundation for running.

As collaborations and limited releases evolved the sneaker industry in the 2000s, adidas launched the A-ZX program in 2008 to celebrate the iconic line in time for its 25th anniversary. The 26-pair collection featured partners like colette, Bodega, UNDFTD, Foot Patrol to name a few. Each letter of the alphabet featured a ZX silhouette chosen by the partner to collab on. Beginning this August, adidas reintroduces the A-ZX program as hinted by the periodic table (above), featuring new partners and other inspirations.

adidas has shared the first 3 that’s set to release this month and here’s a quick rundown of what to expect this August:

Re: adidas ZX 1000 ‘Retro’

adidas kicks off the program with the ZX 1000 to represent Re (for Retro). adidas goes deep into their archives to bring us the ZX 1000 for its first ever re-release since the late ’80s. Nylon and synthetic suede make for the retro runner, a perfect way to kick off the program. The ZX 1000 ‘Retro’ retails for Php 6,000 and drops this Friday, August 7th via adidas.com.ph.

S: adidas ZX 8000 ‘Superstar’

What’s great about the A-ZX program is that they’re not just using one ZX silhouette but we get a chance to see so many variations of the ZX runner. For S, adidas meshes their celebration of the ZX with the 50th anniversary of the Superstar. The Superstar’s iconic design is dressed on to the ZX 8000, giving us the best of both worlds into one. The ZX 8000 ‘Superstar’ is set to release August 14.

At: adidas ZX 8000 G-SNK ‘atmos’

After releasing their 14th edition of the G-SNK line last July, adidas taps Japanese retailer atmos once again, this time for the ZX 8000. True to form with the other G-SNK pairs, the atmos-based ZX comes in bright green with reflective snakeskin but fashioned with faux fur and black accents. The adidas ZX 8000 ‘atmos’drops on August 28.

While the ZX 1000 Retro is confirmed to drop locally, we’ve yet to get confirmation from adidas PH with the release of the Superstar and atmos ZX 8000s. For more on the A-ZX series, make sure to keep it locked here in the coming months.
