New: Nike unveils the latest Gilas Pilipinas team kits in time for the Olympic Qualifiers
Pilipinas, y’ll ready?
To celebrate a summer of sport, Nike just unveiled the 2024 Gilas Pilipinas national team kits that will be worn by the Men’s, Women’s, 3X3, and Youth basketball teams. These kits will be the most athlete-informed, data-driven, and visually unified team kit ever produced.
Nike’s design teams listened to the athlete – a winning formula the brand has built its brand on – to come up with the best possible kit for them to train and compete in. Based on 4D motion-capture data algorithmically honed with pixel-level precision and engineered specifically for each competition, the kit was inspired by the distinct identity and diverse community that the country and the sport represent. The result was team kits that sport an entirely new chassis designed to answer the athletes’ preference for mobility and breathability and engineered to the exact specifications of the body in motion.
These kits are also made with Dri-FIT ADV technology, keeping athletes cool, dry and performance-ready, especially with the adaptable vents to conform to each athlete’s needs.
To get us all excited to root for our teams, Nike sent over the country’s road jersey for us to try out. The Road jerseys are done in blue with yellow piping, while the home uniforms are in white with red and blue. Inspired by Nike’s commitment to unity, diversity and inclusivity, the words “SINUMAN BAWAT LAHAT” (ANY, EVERY, ALL in english) are stitched on the bottom hem.
“The colors remind me of the blue oceans that surround the Philippines with the yellow signifying the rays of the sun. They represent the aura and natural beauty of the Philippines in a soft and elegant way, symbolizing the hospitality that Filipinos have to offer,” said small forward Chris Newsome of the Gilas Men’s team.
“I like the new jerseys, they are really nice. They are something new compared to our previous Gilas uniforms. They represent a new chapter for me and a new chapter for Gilas,” said June Mar Fajardo.
The Philippines Men’s National Basketball team will debut the kits on court during the upcoming Olympic Qualifiers in Latvia this July. The road jersey and fan tee collection releases on July 3, exclusively on Nike.com, Nike Fort and Titan.
