VARSITY HEAT: WEEK 5
We’re in the 2nd Round! As much as I want the season to last longer, we also can’t wait for things to unravel as the games grow exponentially important in the coming weeks. Ateneo continues to rule the land while losses to Adamson and UP made the 2-7 race so much more exciting.
On the sneaker front, customs continue to take center stage, while some Bulldog brought his (Leaping) Cat to the game. Check out this week’s Varsity Heat presented in partnership with Slam PH, Kickspotting and Buhay Basket.
ADAMSON VS UE – Jerrick Ahanmisi
While Ahanmisi & Co. couldn’t get the W, he had the best looking sneakers on court. The custom Tom & Jerry Harden Vol.2s were a surprise, and definitely turned heads. I wonder if the customizer was thinking of Spongebob when he was working on the middle panels…
ATENEO vs UST – Thirdy Ravena vs CJ Cansino
Both Thirdy and CJ are known to bring the heat during the games. However this time around, it was all business… in yellow. While Thirdy wore the Spongebob Kyrie 5s to shootaround before, he decided to wear them for the full game. CJ used his Bruce Lee IXs once again, but he was unfortunately checked throughout the game. Nice kicks, though.
NU vs DLSU – Ildefonso Brothers + JLC
Both Shaun and Dave Ildefonso’s been on Varsity Heat before. While NU’s slump isn’t due to their lack of trying, but the cards just haven’t been in their favor all season long. Good thing they still brought some heat for us to look forward to their games. Dave whipped out the PUMA Uproars, mere days after they were released at Titan. Shaun rocked the Agimats once again, on the same day Bron decided to wear his during their first NBA Preseason game.
JLC on the other hand wore the Why Not Zer0.2s. He had a miserable game, perhaps skip these Westbrooks next gameday?
UP vs FEU – Ricci, James, Juan, and Kobe
Week 5’s last game was a thriller! Not only were we treated to an OT game (great comeback, UP!), heat was all over the place with the Fighting Maroons! Ricci and James wore signature silhouettes for Kobe and KD while Juan Gomez de Liano took a trip to his childhood with the Sonic/Mario customs.
But this week’s Sneaker MVP goes to Kobe Paras. While most consider their Yeezys to be their grails, Kobe played in his. The YEEZY 500 ‘Salt’ was on full display (let’s add his BAPE socks to the fit) as he led that comeback for the Fighting Maroons. Don’t be surprised to see someone playing in the 500s. The outsole was taken from an adidas KB8 3 from the late 90s.
