Over the last few years, we’ve seen the Air Max 97 rise again to prominence due to the chunky/dad/90s shoe being the trend. While most of us know the value of the 97, Nike Sportswear’s been creating new takes on the iconic sneaker. This January, we’re pleased to see a Quickstrike pop up at several Nike stockists.
Upon first glance, you’d think this was a remnant from the Carhartt collaboration that dropped from last month, as the colorway comprises of Ale Brown, Black and Elemental Gold. But with careful inspection, you’ll notice that the shoe resembles Nike’s shipping box and online order. Although most Filipinos have no inkling of what a Nike online order may look like, Nike’s e-commerce store comes in a brown shipping box, with black accents and silver/grey-striped packing tape. All these are reflected on to the Air Max 97, complete with a bar code and “thank you for your order” found on the shoe’s outsole.
The shoe’s upper is where this iteration of the Air Max 97 wins. The various textures, use of a rough suede and the waxed upper definitely resembles an online Nike order. The tongue tab, bar codes, and the branding on the insole just completes the look, and gives us another reason why Nike unofficially won 2018. The Nike Air Max 97 QS ‘Shipping Box’ retails for Php 8,095 and is now available at select Sole Academy, Commonwealth and The Athlete’s Foot stores.
