MISSION CONTROL: The NASA x VANS Collection Drops this Friday
What is it with space suits and exploration these days? We’ve seen futuristic/spacesuit-inspired designs across several brands. While some took inspiration, Vans took it up a notch and actually got together with NASA for their latest “Space Voyager” collection. Taking cues from NASA’s spacesuits, the latest collection is comprised of several classic Vans silhouettes and bags. While we aren’t getting the entire collection, we are getting the best pairs in market – the Old Skool and Sk8-Hi 46 MTE DX. Each silhouette comes in two colorways and feature various patches and print throughout (we’ll get to the details later). Here’s a closer look at the upcoming collection:
Old Skool ‘Space Voyager’ – True White
Most of you must’ve seen this version of the Old Skool by now. The all-white sneaker makes this the most appealing among the bunch. Aside from being the most wearable, there are several details that definitely puts this sneaker on top. A NASA JFK Space Center stamp is found on the mid foot while removable velcro American flag patches are on the heels. Early leaked photos of the shoe featured black stitching on the tongue to go with the black eyelets. The tongue is done in silver ballistic nylon while orange “Shuttle” and “Mission” tags are stitched on them for added detail. Exposed foam can be seen around the collar and NASA satellite prints on the insoles round out the shoe’s design. The NASA x Vans Old Skool ‘Space Voyager’ retails for Php 4,998.
Old Skool ‘Space Voyager’ – Firecracker
The burnt firecracker color on this Old Skool’s upper will definitely grab your attention. The added details (flag patches, NASA print and Shuttle Mission tags) are similar to its white counterpart. However, the nylon tongue is done in the same color as the upper while the black tongue tabs, eyelets and laces provide the contrast for this eye catching colorway. The NASA x Vans Old Skool ‘Space Voyager’ in Firecracker also retails for Php 4,998.
Sk8-Hi 46 MTE DX ‘Space Voyager’ – True White
Sk8-Hi fans will truly appreciate the details added to this MTE variant. Similar to the Old Skool, premium leather adorns the sneaker with contrasting colors found on the tongue, collar and laces. But the added details are what makes this high top worth picking up. A “NASA” and “Astronaut” patch are stitched on to the left shoe while a velcro JPL NASA Voyager patch is on the right. Orange “Vans Off The Wall” patches are found on the shoe’s tongue for that extra pop. The phrase “For the Benefit of All” is printed on the heel to go with the exposed foam on the collar and quarter panels. What’s great about this Sk8-Hi is that it is part of Vans’ MTE series, making it perfect for the elements. The NASA x Vans Sk8-Hi 46 MTE DX retails for Php 6,998.
Sk8-Hi 46 MTE DX ‘Space Voyager’ – Black
To round out the collection, Vans tweaked some of the details to the black Sk8-Hi ‘Space Voyager’. An ‘Apollo 2’ patch is found on the right shoe (although not see here). The phrases “The Eagle Has Landed” and “For the Benefit of All” are printed on the heels. Lastly, the exposed foam around the collar and quarter panel adds another dimension to the sneaker’s overall look. The NASA x Vans Sk8-Hi 46 MTE DX also retails for Php 6,998.
