I first encountered Yasuhiro Mihara a few years back and was impressed with the designs he came out for Puma. I bought my first pair last year and I’m extremely happy with them. What was a drag was that you can’t buy Mihara’s here in the Philippines. Enter 2010.

For Spring/Summer 2010, “Out of sports, out of fashion” is the concept behind the collab of Mihara and PUMA. It’s been 10 years since Yasuhiro Mihara and PUMA got together for a collab never heard of in the industry. 10 successful years of innovative and irreverent footwear are being celebrated with the introduction of the special 10th anniversary animated character “Pumaneko” designed by Jap artist Peloqoon. For Mihara’s New Retro collection, he decided to revisit the past decade’s creations with PUMA to create vibrant new styles in which the avant-garde form and retrospective coexist together.

This is the MY-1 Reborn 10th Anniversary shoe. It’s basically Mihara’s first ever sneaker collab with Puma which came out 10 years ago (obviously…). This version features a print of the characters Pumaneko and Kemo-Kemo designed by Japanese artist Pelaqoon as well as a colored “Pumaneko” hangtag.

This too, is the MY-1 Reborn, but done in Ski Patrol/Sulphur. Don’t be fooled by the sole and the unconventional design of a Mihara. They’re really comfortable and they really look great with jeans, cords or even dress pants. Puma and MY definitely used premium materials for the collection.

Aside from the MY-1s, Puma and Mihara are also releasing a couple more pairs for the Spring/Summer collection. The low top here is the MY-48L. The shoe features a rased vulcanized foxing tape that wraps the heel to add sleekness to a very classic and clean upper. Check out the gum sole on this one. Slick, right? This style comes in a summer color palette of Biscay Bay, Raspberry, White and Black. The high top on the other hand is the MY-49 L (yes, model numbers are the way to go here; no need for weird names). As you can see the high top carries a vulcanized sole but with the Mihara “twist”- The heel is not the same as the forefoot. My MYs are the same with the countoured heel. Tonal colors are off-set by the material mix of full-grain and patent leather.

Expect to see the MY S/S Collection in the Philippines between February and March.
