Three colorful renditions of classics make it on to Ruohan Wang’s Nike Flyleather Pack

Posted on Sep 23, 2020 in Nike

Slowly but surely, Nike’s definitely hitting the mark in terms of their Move to Zero. After releasing the Space Hippie, Vapormax 2020 FK, and the more recent NSW Recycled Canvas Pack, Nike partnered with Berlin-based illustrator Ruohan Wang for the Flyleather Pack. The pairs feature Flyleather uppers made with at least 50% recycled leather fibers.

This year’s Flyleather pack features three classic Nike silhouettes – the Air Force 1, the Blazer Mid ’77, and the Air Max 90.

Wang was born in China but grew up in Berlin, and takes that cross-cultural mix to her graphic and color treatments for this year’s collection. Both the AF-1 and the Blazer Mid ’77 feature Chinese characters that mean ‘natural circulation’ and ‘power and love’ printed on its midsoles. The uppers are quite colorful, reflecting the vibrant creative energy of Berlin.

Circular design cross through Ruohan Wang’s designs with the swirling designs, and the blending of color and motion, all resembling the earth’s natural forces and the balance that reflect’s Wang’s upbringing.

“The earth belongs to every person. Every culture is part of this global mission to protect it,” says Ruohan. “Given my Chinese background and my artistic training in Berlin, it felt right to present that motivation born out of many cultures.”
