Just in case you weren’t in line last weekend to reserve your pair, the Nike Air Max ‘OG’ Pack drops tomorrow, January 1st 2013 at Sole Academy. The store released 64 slots for their Academy Card- an exclusive membership that opens up loyal customers and sneaker aficionados to special and limited pairs as well as events and other store-related privileges. If you weren’t fortunate enough to get a slot last weekend, it’s OK. The store allocated a couple of more pairs for walk-ins to purchase the pack. The OG Pack features the four core Air Max silhouettes- Air Max 1, 90, 95, and 97- the pairs that solidified Nike’s place in the sneaker game.
Seeing the pairs up close, you’ll notice a couple of things that are different from the official photo releases from Nike. The Air Max 1 does NOT have the yellowing midsoles (a big plus, if you ask me) as well as a thicker mesh on the toe box (similar to the Patta AM1s). The Air Max bag also features a red rib, as opposed to the 09 release that had a clear one.
The Air Max 90s however did go through the VNTG process, with yellowing midsoles and spotting on the outsoles. The grey panels on the upper are much darker than the 2008 and 2010 releases, but closer to the actual ones that dropped in 1990. I’m quite pleased with the leather they used on the black stripe on the side panels. They used softer leather, pretty much like tumbled leather, at least you know Nike used better materials this time around.
The 95s and 97s are pretty much the same, but a treat to most AM fans as the 2008/2010 releases never made it on local soil. Everyone on the line last Saturday gravitated towards the 1s and 90s, but don’t say I didn’t warn you, the 95s and 97s are the runaway hits here.
Releasing tomorrow, the Air Max OG Pack will be available at Sole Academy beginning 11am. The Air Max 1/87 and 90 retail for Php 5,295, while the Air Max 95 and 97 retail for Php 6,995 each. And for those dropping by the store tomorrow, I worked with Sole Academy along with some friends that’ll surely be a treat, especially if you’re an Air Max fan.
