PRIZED PICK-UP: THALMUS JURIA

Over the past few years, I’ve seen people send in basketball kicks, limited editions, and grails of the hoop and running kind. When Paolo Ramos sent in Thalmus Juria’s prized pick-up, it definitely garnered a spot on the Prized Pick-Up section.

Back in the day, Pete Sampras was the king of tennis. He initially had the record of being at the top for 286 consecutive weeks. Then came Roger. Last July, Roger Federer cemented his status as the greatest of all time by breaking Sampras’ record on his 287th week. To celebrate this historical feat, Nike produced a special colorway of RF’s shoe, the Zoom Vapor Tour 9. Coming in a special box, individually numbered and laced in gold, only 287 pairs were made and were available on the Nike Store site. They sold out in seconds.

Thalmus Juria’s a tennis fan. He found out about the shoe a little too late and had to go the back route to get his pair. Losing auctions left and right, he didn’t think he would have a shot at owning a pair. Until an auction in Denmark went off and he won it without other e-bidders beating him to the punch. He finally received the package a couple of days ago and here it is. Nike did a good one for Roger and Mr. Juria’s happy to own a pair of history. Great find, Thalmus!

For those who want to share their own prized find, email your prized pick-up at martin@solemovement.com and share why they’re your prized pick-up!
