NSW-Designed for Sport, Crafted for Life

It’s always a treat to know what’s next and what to look forward to, especially when the first few months of the year has been straight fire. Last Thursday was just that. The wonderful people from Nike invited me and a couple of people who matter in the biz to check up on what’s up for Summer 2010, what’s about to drop and what to look forward to for the rest of 2010.

“Designed for sport, crafted for life” has always been Nike Sportswear’s philosophy as it blurs the line between athletic sportswear and day-to-day fashion. The start of the event featured some of the stuff we’ve seen on the site over the past two months- the Grand Slam Polo, the Lunarlite Rejuven8 Mid, and the AM BW Gen II. If you can’t trace, the kicks were laced with the Torch Technology, a technology that definitely works for the crazy weather we’ve been having.
And on to the good stuff. A couple of readers, including yours truly, was wondering if Nike was ever gonna launch the Air Attack Pack locally. A couple of cats were impatient and copped their pairs overseas or online. Well, folks, the wait is over. Nike gave a preview of the Pack– imagine, a whole table full of kicks from the pack. It wasn’t the whole collection but the ones that mattered were on it- the AM1, AM1 Maxim, AM90, AM2009 and 2010, to name a few. They also previewed the viral video of the secret behind Nike Air- I’m not sure if you’ve seen it, but it’s one of the best videos ever from the swoosh. It was a comical approach to what Nike Air and the technology is all about (I’ll post the video real soon). The Air Attack Pack launches this June 1st and will be available at Nike stores nationwide. Happy? I am.

“Nike Sportswear continues to drive innovation in sportswear by blurring the lines where the athlete stops playing and starts living. The Summer/Fall 2010 collections synthesize classic NSW styles with current athletic needs and up-to-date design. Pieces from these collections are day-to-day essentials with stylish designs and intricate finishing,” said Mae Dichupa, Nike Philippines Country Marketing Manager.

The second half of the session was the interesting part, which definitely proved how versatile NSW is and can be. Renowned stylists from the fashion industry were invited to create their own renditions of different street styles with UAAP personalities as their models. And these aren’t your newbie stylists or those hapless wannabes some up and coming celebs call stylists. Among the stylists who graced the event and shared their expertise with the fashion press were Ana Kalaw, Bea Constantino, Mariane Perez, Ram de Vera and Rachelle Que. They all took on a UAAP personality and tried to revamp their looks using the pieces from the NSW Summer and Fall Collections. Participating in the style session are sportscasters Erin Torrejon of the DLSU Archers and Jessica Mendoza of the Ateneo Blue Eagles, former sportscaster and now host of Quick-E Aaron Atayde, DLSU Archers’ Power Forward Joshua Webb and FEU Tamaraws’ “Veteran Rookie” RR Garcia. The interactive part of the event had members of the media, including myself, help the stylist re-up the looks of our personalities. Their new look was definitely a step towards pop culture-meets street as Erin took the role of a club DJ, Jessica a graffiti artist, Aaron as a skater boy, Joshua as a rocker and RR as a B-boy. Despite the heat, the event was definitely a fun one and took your mind off the sweltering heat. Indeed designed for sport, crafted for life.

There were a couple of kicks there that I can’t post just yet but here’s a tease of something to look forward to for Fall 2010 from Nike Sportswear.

Thanks again to the whole Nike crew- Mae, Tony, Jerwin, NP Staff, and everybody else who made it out there- Jojo, Banjo, Rosario, Mars, Boom, and Mesh. Nice seein’ you guys again!
