Nike unveils the Adapt BB 2.0

Posted on Jan 22, 2020 in Nike

Around this time last year, Nike unveiled the future of the game with the Nike Adapt BB. For those who got to try them out, it was truly game changing. As the only shoe to truly adapt to the user’s foot for the perfect fit, the Nike Adapt BB and its power-lacing engine was the next step in improving the game. This year, Nike continues to refine the fit with the Nike Adapt BB 2.0, further improving on their previous model while giving us a glimpse into the future.

While the shoe is set to release during All-Star Weekend 2020 this February, Memphis Grizzlies’ star rookie Ja Morant broke them out during their game against the Pelicans yesterday. If you’re wondering what changes were made to the shoe, here’s a rundown of what to expect:

Bouncier court feel

Players wanted more ‘bounce’ underfoot. Cushlon wasn’t enough so Nike designers added Air Zoom Turbo at the forefoot. This is the same Zoom Air bag used on the Kyrie signature line.

The Air Zoom Turbo setup creates a highly responsive cushioning platform that doesn’t interfere with the Adapt mechanism in the midfoot.

Better ride

While the Adapt mechanism was located in the midfoot, the midsole stack height was reconfigured to provide a better pop off at the forefoot. With the changed height, the transition from heel to toe has changed dramatically.

The molded heel piece above the midsole helps lock in the ankle for support.

Easier to put on

A lot of the issues for most users (myself included) was the difficulty in getting your foot into the shoe. The absence of the Flyknit shroud on the Adapt BB 2.0 opens up the collar. This along with the stretchable ballistic mesh throughout the upper makes putting the shoe on so much easier.

The stretchier TPU material also allows the lacing system to provide a more adaptive fit.

More immersive detailing

Instead of the shroud, you now see a larger Swoosh wrapping around the throat of the sneaker. The pixelated texture of the Swoosh blends in to the shoe’s futuristic tyle.

the lateral clip where the buttons are located has a concave geometry so that the lights better reflects off the midsole’s surface area.

It was debuted by point guard Ja Morant

Last year, we saw Jayson Tatum, Luka Doncic and a host of others debut the Adapt BB on court. As mentioned, Ja Morant wore the shoe against the Pelicans for MLK Day. The shoe will also be worn by Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson at the start of the WNBA Regular Season.

The Nike Adapt BB 2.0 is set to release February 16 in the US. Keep it locked in for more info on its local release.
