Nike officially unveils the Zoom KD13

Posted on Apr 3, 2020 in Nike

Earlier today, Nike Basketball officially unveiled the latest signature shoe for Brooklyn Nets’ start Kevin Durant, the Nike Zoom KD13. For those who got to try the KD12, the shoe featured a full-length Zoom unit that acted as a strobel, giving users the direct benefit of Air underfoot. Aside from the Zoom strobel, the shoe also featured a Zoom unit in the forefoot right below the aforementioned Zoom unit. Nike brings the Zoom strobel and forefoot Zoom back but added an additional Zoom Air unit underneath the heel for the ultimate ride. A lot of players praise the Zoom KD12 for its amazing feel underfoot, but you can just imagine adding another Zoom unit on the heel to give you the best possible responsiveness on a signature shoe.

We’ve seen several innovations on cushioning technologies and I had to ask — why would you want to have a double-stacked Zoom underfoot? According to Ross Klein, Nike BB’s Senior Creative Director, it basically works as a mechanical spring. The more energy you put in to it, the more you should be able to receive back.

Basketball mechanics lends itself to provide energy return. From absorption to propulsion, the double-stacked Zoom should be able to help make it better. Just ask KD, better yet, try them out for yourself once they drop this April. Check out the key innovation done on the Zoom KD13:

UPPER: Nike took unneccessary materials off the upper to keep the shoe lightweight. Like other shoes from KD’s line, he wants a shoe that can be worn loosely for that relaxed fit.
CUSHIONING: Nike kept the full-length Zoom unit to act as the shoe’s strobel.
FOREFOOT: An additional Zoom unit in the forefoot for responsiveness.
