Oh, KD. While we’re waiting for the return of KD on hardwood, it’s good to see Nike continuing the grind to promote his latest signature shoe, the KD7. Following the same weather theme for the latest edition, Nike Basketball looks to the Big Apple for inspiration. On the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street in New York City sits an icon of the city’s skyline with a towering lightning rod, struck by lightning an average of 25 times per year.

Similar to last year’s KD6 ‘NYC 66’, the KD7 Lightning 534 takes the same inspiration as to when he scorched the Harlem blacktop like lightning himself, scoring 66 points during a summer league game on Aug. 1, 2011. The new KD7 colorway captures the purple hue of the New York City sky evident when lightning strikes the city.  Graphics on the Nike Swoosh and outsole visually represent weather patterns.

“Basketball has an amazing energy that pulls me in,” says Durant.  “The electricity of New York’s basketball scene is something that city should be proud of.”

Expect to see KD rock these in January when OKC plays New York. The KD7 Lightning 534 shoe debuts on and at select retail locations globally on Nov. 25. There is still no official word as to if and when the shoe will drop in the PH.
