My First Jordans.

I have two stories for you guys. One, I did mention a while back that I had to let these DMPs go. They were a size too big and though they were of a limited run, I felt that getting a pair a half-size too big wasn’t worth my hard earned money.

2 days after posting that comment, I stopped by Nike over at Rockwell. I saw a pair on display and decided to ask how many pairs were left. The clerk asked me what size, so I said “10.5″. The clerk hesitated for a second and ran to the stock room. Someone else reserved the last 10.5 but didn’t come back for it. I tried them on and they were perfect. They looked great with the jeans I had on, the fit was snug and just enough to get my groove on. I told the clerk I’ll come back for them after a trip around the mall. I returned a good 30 minutes after and picked them up. So no more expensive meals for the next 3 months. I went home happy, and felt a little sorry for the guy who didn’t come back for the Js, which leads me to my next story.

These are my firs
t ever Jordans. Wth!?!?! A sneakerhead without Air Jordans? Yup, it’s true. Ofcourse I had Jordans before, but they were all Brand Jordans- the Jumpman Pro Quick (Eddie Jones), Jumpman Ultralite, and a Jumpman lo (I couldn’t remember what it’s called but I believe Mike Finley or EJ wore them). I never had Air Jordans. Growing up, we couldn’t afford pairs that were over our budget. My parents always told us that they’ll give us what we need, but not all the wants. So there, Jordans were out of reach. I was pathetic. My grade school classmates or friends were the ones who had the Js but my monicker growing up was Jordan (haha! I know..). I borrowed their pairs just to walk around the classroom so that I can “feel the air”. I emulated Michael any which way possible- from the tongue sticking out, with the armband (well, a wristband placed by the forearm) and the baggy shorts. I copied the hairdo after college (well, the genes caught up is more like it). I used to attempt the ever famous free throw line dunk, but my version always ended a few feet short and a couple of inches below the rim.

Nevertheless, I lived, breathed and played Jordan on the courts. I even remember asking for Wheaties and posed like a model similar to his Guy Laroche ads.
After 24 years, I decided it was time to buy my first ever Jordans. Believe me, I’ve had chances before, but this felt like the most opportune time.

The DMP Package, which commemorates MJ’s 63 points against Larry and the Celtics way back in ’86. That’s when Larry said Michael was God dressed as Michael Jordan. He started it all. He started the shoe game. The rest, as they say, is history. There should be a couple of pairs still available at select shops around town. So if you’re feeling the Pack, go for it.
