Holiday Heat: New Drops from Nike and Under Armour

Posted on Dec 26, 2019 in Nike

And you thought the brands would finally go easy on you.

Guess again.

After a dizzying month of December, the holiday rush continues, this time care of Nike Basketball and Under Armour. Here’s a breakdown of what’s dropping today from our good friends at Titan:

Nike KD 12 ‘Aunt Pearl’

Ever since the KD4, Kevin Durant honored his late Aunt Pearl with one of the best colorways of his signature line. Continuing that message and support for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, Nike created a ‘What The’ of sorts of the last 8 KD Aunt Pearl sigs all rolled into the KD12. Here’s a breakdown of the design elements from previous Aunt Pearl pairs fused on to the KD12:

  • The pearl graphic on the collar foam is drawn from the KD4
  • The sock liner graphic is from the KD5
  • The medial heel graphic is from the KD6
  • The strap is from the KD7
  • The lateral heel graphic is from the KD8
  • The heel embroidery is from the KD9
  • The material on the tongue, collar and Nike Swoosh is from the KD10
  • The outsole marbling is from the KD11

The KD12 Aunt Pearl releases today at Titan, with the shoe retailing for Php 7,645.

Concepts x Kyrie 6 ‘Khepri’

Kyrie Irving’s still gunning for the title of signature athlete with the best collabs this season. While he hasn’t been on court as much this season, we have seen the Kyrie 6 on the feet of some of the best ballers in the league. While he may have severed ties to beantown, he did keep ties with Concepts and they’re back for another solid release with the KYRIE 6 ‘Khepri’

From the KYRIE 4 Lobsters to the KYRIE 5 Ikhet and Orion’s Belt, the two tap into the all-seeing eye with another Egyptian-themed set. The Egyptian solar deity is represented by the scarab beetle, the Khepri. The Khepri is considered the god of creation and is also associated with resurrection. The word Khepri also means to transform, fitting for Irving’s ever progressive growth.

Using pink and blue for the shoe is a means to match the morning sun against the desert sand. The colors of the outsole were modeled after one of the most expensive scarab beetles ever sold.

The Concepts x KYRIE 6 ‘Khepri’ also drops today at Titan for Php 6,745. The shoe also drops via Nike.com/ph on December 31. There’s also a kids-exclusive colorway via the ‘Golden Mummy’, which is slated to drop in January.

Nike Zoom Freak 1 ‘Soul Glo’

Earlier today, Giannis Antetokounmpo rocked these for his Christmas Day game versus the Philadelphia 76ers. As shared earlier this season, ‘Coming to America’ is one of Giannis’ favorite movies. Staying true to the Coming to America theme, Nike created a ‘Soul Glo’ variant of the Zoom Freak 1. For those not too familiar with the movie, a Soul Glo commercial ran within the movie, promoting that sheen needed for that ’80s style jheri curls. The black-based upper is contrasted by the neon accents found on the liner. Yellow accents are found on the toe, midsole and reverse Swoosh. The Soul Glo branding can be found on the tongue, heel and footbed for good measure.

The Nike Zoom Freak 1 ‘Soul Glo’ drops today at Titan, with the shoe retailing for Php 6,295.

Under Armour Curry 7 ‘Super Soaker’

While we won’t see Steph Curry for a month or so, Under Armour decided to tap into Steph’s inner child with a toy he treasured throughout his childhood. The Curry 7 ‘Super Soaker’ takes on the colors of the popular NERF water gun that was popular back in the 90s. The materials (both mesh and synthetic materials) mimic the toy’s base colors with varying shades of blue. Neon orange and lime green hits on he mid-foot plate and laces represent the pump and front muzzle of the super soaker.

The Under Armour Curry 7 ‘NERF Super Soaker’ drops today at Titan and retails for Php 7,995.
