Air Yeezy Today, Gone Tomorrow

That was a blur. In less than 24 hours since Bunker announced how they were planning to sell the Air Yeezys, heads from all over the metro convened once again for a chance to own the most awaited shoe for 2009. As mentioned, a couple of dudes were in line right after the announcement. I decided to take my time. Wrong move.

I was still debating if I should join in the fun of lining up for this special drop. After all, camping out, standing in line (while rocking neck breakers) is all part of the sneaker culture. And that’s the good I got from yesterday’s event. Manila is finally getting there with the other sneaker hubs of the world. Being part of the ordeal was a treat in itself. From the “war stories” and buzz on the next best sneaker release, everyone in line had their own take at the sneaker game. Heck, it was like a dude’s version of chismis and girl talk.

some guys have all the luck. two future Yeezy owners rocking the Infrareds and SBs

I arrived late. I was in the area around 230 but opted to go to the gym and check out the new joints over at Crate. Mon (sneakercultmanila.blogspot.com) mentioned he was about 15th in the line. So I was like, “what are the odds of 15 guys in front of me all wearing 10.5s?”. By 5:30 I finally got in line and was about 25th or so. They finally confirmed that there’s about 22 pairs available. Hearing that, the light from the glow in the dark Yeezy soles were slowly fading. By 730, only 4 pairs were left- a size per pair which entailed the raffle formate and one last shot at the Yeezys.

no kicks were harmed while in line.

From the pictures above and the tone of my post, it’s pretty obvious that I wasn’t one of the lucky ones to get Kanye’s sleds. But in the end, it was alright. I had fun, no hard feelings, and made a couple of new sneaker friends. As they say, you snooze, you lose. Props to all the heads who came out for the Yeezys. Props to Nike for bringing the heat to Manila. Props to Bunker for keeping it real and laying the groundwork towards Manila being next sneaker hotbed in Asia. We are the foundation and let’s cultivate this motherf*c!#er.
