A Cult Favorite Makes a Comeback this Weekend

Posted on Jul 15, 2018 in Nike

Another cult classic makes a comeback this July. Over the last two years, it’s quite refreshing that Nike has veered away from just rehashing Air Max 1s and 90s for their Nike Sportswear catalog. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a reason why they always retro those sneakers. But for true Air Max aficionados like ourselves, it’s always a treat to see other silhouettes on rotation. As it celebrated their 20 year anniversaries, Nike released the Air Max 97 and 98 to much appreciation and celebration of Nike fans all over. This weekend, Nike welcomes back the Air Max Deluxe.

The Air Max Deluxe debuted at the turn of the century. Back then, sneaker designs were pushing the limits of what you can and cannot do — from applying different uppers, different cushioning technologies and everything in between. The Air Max Deluxe definitely represented that. Although Nike was breaking ground with their Tuned Air units, it oddly took a step back to use the full-length Air units they used on the Air Max 97. The TPU exoskeleton, tie-dye graphic upper and reflective lines all made the sneaker stand out. First out of the gate is the OG “Photo Blue” colorway and expect more from the Swoosh to bring out other colorways of this fan favorite.

The Nike Air Max Deluxe OG “Photo Blue” drops today at Commonwealth (Aura and Greenbelt) on a first come, first serve basis. Sole Academy is slated to release the shoe although no release dates have been pegged. The retro sneaker retails for Php 8,995.
