Pressure Makes Rings: The New Balance Kawhi ‘4 Bounces’ is dropping locally

Pressure Makes Rings.

After releasing the OMN1S and OMN1S Low these past few months, looks like New Balance PH is bringing another game changer sooner than expected.

After unveiling the his signature shoe during All-Star Weekend, New Balance and Kawhi Leonard recently released the first official colorway of The KAWHI dubbed ‘4 Bounces’. I’m sure everyone remembers how the ball bounced 4 times during Leonard’s run during the 2019 Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Similar to previous collections, New Balance brings out the KAWHI alongside the 850 a pair of slides and choice apparel to complete the ‘4 Bounces’ Collection. As the brand’s lead basketball athlete, the KAWHI was designed in consultation with Leonard. The shoe was built around Kawhi’s power and versatility. New to the silhouette is Kinetic Stitch – a data-driven thread application for proper lockdown and support where its needed the most. The shoe also uses FuelCell cushioning for energy return and responsiveness. New Balance also added a full-length performance plate, made to aid Kawhi’s cutting, jumping and stability.

For Kawhi’s first official shoe with New Balance, there are a lot of details found on the sneaker:

  1. The K2 Box Logo on the tongue is specific to the ‘4 Bounces’; other upcoming KAWHI colorways will just have KAWHI on the tongue.
  2. You’ll notice a corn-row inspired embossing on the collar strap.
  3. Kawhi’s accolades are found on the top of the tongue:4X All-Star, 2X Champion, 2X Finals MVP, 2X DPOY
  4. The shoe’s top eyelets are designed like the break lights of Kawhi’s 1964 Chevy Impala.
  5. On the heel, you’ll see an M with coordinates for Moreno Valley, CA, where Kawhi is from.
  6. The squiggly lines on the side panels represent earthquake maps; when Leonard signed with the Clippers, there was an earthquake that day.
  7. The color blocking (Black/Varsity Royal) were taken from the OMN1S ‘2-Way’ he wore when he hit that game winning shot versus the Sixers.
  8. Kawhi’s #2 is seen on the base of the shoe, which also represents Leonard being a 2-way player.
  9. The quilting on the inside heel represent the seats on Leonard’s Impala.
  10. Leonard’s signature is found in gold on the back heel.
