Zero to Zoom: the evolution continues as Jordan Brand unveils the Air Jordan XXXV

Posted on Sep 25, 2020 in Jordan Brand

Yesterday, we featured the Holiday 2020 Retro Collection from Jordan Brand. Today, we switch on to performance footwear as JB officially unveiled the latest shoe in the signature line, the Air Jordan XXXV.

Man. 35 years. His Airness may not be on the court anymore but his legacy continues on with the innovation brought by the team to bring the best out of every athlete. With much acclaim to last year’s signature, Jordan Brand improves on it by updating the Eclipse Plate, helping it unlock Zoom Air found both in the heel and forefoot.

If you remember, one of the guiding principles of the Air Jordan XXXIV was reducing materials that were unnecessary to the shoe’s performance. The same can be said for this year’s model as it provides the most efficient energy return from the Zoom Air units. During the virtual launch event last night, Craig Williams, president of Jordan Brand, reiterated that the Air Jordan XXXV focuses on performance to help solve problems and advance innovation further. The Air Jordan signature line has been key in introducing over 80 tech innovations throughout its series with Visible Air, Podular Air, the Flight Plate, and most recently the Eclipse Plate just to name a few.

For a quick rundown of what makes the Air jordan XXXV special, here are the innovations found on the sneaker:

Eclipse Plate 2.0

Improving on last year’s design, the Air Jordan XXXV introduces the Eclipse Plate 2.0. Moving it slightly, the new Eclipse Plate wraps up higher along the midsole for structure, stability and support.

Herringbone Traction Pattern

The Air Jordan XXXV uses a traditional herringbone traction pattern, as it responds optimally to multidirectional footwok as it also helps the athlete stop and go on a dime.

Visible Zoom Air Heel Unit

The XXXV also features a visible Zoom Air unit as opposed to last year’s encased hex Zoom heel unit. By being exposed, it provides space for the bags to expand and contract with your movement.

Flightwire

The upper also features Flightwire, Jordan’s on take on the traditional Flywire. It keeps the shoe lightweight and provides lockdown. They also added a Kurim cage underneath for extra support.

Similar to previous models of the Air Jordan signature line, there are design cues that link this year’s model to the series. This year, it takes elements from the Air Jordan V, with its tongue design, Kurim detailing and the molded foam pods around the collar. The shoe also introduces back suedes and other materials to the Air Jordan XXXV, but instead of just aesthetics, the brands uses these materials with purpose and function.

The Air Jordan XXXV kicks off with the ‘Center of Gravity’ colorway as it releases in China on September 27 and globally (and the Philippines) on October 17. Keep it locked here for the actual release as the dates get closer.
