Last March, Nike Training debuted the Nike Free Trainer 5.0. Applying the same concept of the Chinese Finger Trap, the Free Trainer 5.0′s upper would loosen or tighten based on the user’s movements. If the Black/Pimento and Hyperblue/Volt colors were too out of your range, here’s a more traditional Black/White colorway of the latest Nike trainer. If you’ve been to the Nike stores all over town, you would’ve seen the Nike Free store and window display. Going through years of study, testing, and design to mimic the foot’s natural motion, Nike released three models – Nike Free 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0. At the start of summer, Nike Philippines invited a select group to try out the latest Nike Free line. The way it works, the higher the number, cushioning is better. Nike peppered its various technologies on each pair; the Free 5.0 uses Dynamic Flywire for secure support without added weight, the Free 4.0 uses no-sew overlays while the Free 3.0 works the Engineered Mesh into the shoe’s design.

We ran 3 laps around Bonifacio High Street and the shoe felt pretty good. I’ve always needed additional cushioning for my running shoes but the 5.0 provided decent support. Immediately after, we all got a taste of what the NTC (Nike Training Club) program is all about. Chappy Callanta (360 Fitness) ran the workout and left us all gasping for air. As much as it beat the living hell out of me, I do see the benefits of circuit training as part of your workout.

The heat getting to you? Too hot to wear your kicks? Here’s an option- the Nike Tennis Classic AC Mesh.  Nike Sportswear brings back the classic tennis shoe for Summer 2013 but with a couple of twists. The most obvious ofcourse would be the mesh uppers. They replaced the soles with vulc soles, giving the shoe versatility that’ll work even after the summer season. Head on over to your nearest Nike store for the Tennis Classic AC Mesh, retailing for Php 3,995.

2013 has unofficially been the year of the Air Max. We’ve seen retros come out since the beginning of the year to coincide with the release of the latest rendition- the Nike Air Max+ 2013. The updated tubular construction for the full Air unit provides a more flexible ride with less materials. Hyperfuse and Flywire tech is on the upper, making the shoe breathable, durable and lightweight without sacrificing support and fit. This Wolf Grey/Black-Volt colorway is now available at select Nike stores, retailing for Php 8,295.

A couple of days ago we featured the London edition of New Balance’s Running City Pack. Here we have the ‘Tokyo’ edition. Also utilizing the same silhouette, the Tokyo pair is inspired by the art of folding paper, origami. The green lake mesh upper with bright red hits is a nice and refreshing colorway to see on the running circuit. An origami crane  is on the heel while ‘Tokyo’ is printed by the heel and insole. There are darker shades of green and charcoal throughout the shoe, mimicking the shades created by the folded paper art. The REVlite midsoles and ABZORB crash pads keep the shoe comfortable and well-cushioned, a New Balance standard and staple. The New Balance 890v3 ‘Tokyo’ is now available at New Balance Concept stores for Php 5,295.

Do I even have to explain? Nike’s been gung ho with the Flyknit technology ever since they debuted the product during the 2012 London Olympics. Since then, we’ve been treated to so many great looking pairs from the Trainers, Racers, Lunar 1s and now the Lunar Flyknit Chukka. For those following the line, this Chukka-fied version of the seamless runner looks a lot like the HTM versions. The fit on these are amazing, and the looks definitely earn high praises. Releasing this Sunday, May 19th, at Sole Academy.
