Last Thursday, reigning MVP Derrick Rose laced up the latest colorway for the Rose 2.5  when he led the Chicago Bulls to victory against the New York Knicks, 105-102, while dropping 32 points, 13 assists, 4 boards and a steal. This Thursday, you get to lace them up as well.

Dubbed “Brenda,” the bold red colorway of the shoe represents family for Derrick and is his mother Brenda’s favorite color. The texture of the shoe’s nubuck upper is embossed with a detailed rose material and features a full-grain nubuck leather toe box for a strong off-court look. Only four stores will be carrying the shoe- adidas Trinoma, Mall of Asia, Greenbelt 3 and Titan, so make sure you pick them up first thing this Thursday.

The adidas adiZero Rose 2.5 “Brenda” colorway will be available this Thursday, February 9, for 7,495 php.

Have you ever wondered how fast you’re going when you run the break? Or how quickly you sprint when possession changes hands due to a steal? Most tracking systems can’t really tell that as they usually cover linear patterns and distances. adidas, however, found a way.

In line with the release of the adiZero Rose 2.5, adidas launched the miCoach SPEED_CELL™. The new iteration of the miCoach system, measures your stats and movements from all over, as it can track the  maximum speed, number of sprints, and distance in all directions among others. Similar to the previous miCoach compatible runners, the Rose 2.5, the F50 running shoe and a couple others have a cavity on the midsole where you can fit in the Speed Cell. Once you fit in the Speed Cell into the 2.5, you can start playing and it records and takes note of your every move.

After playing, you can automatically sync the Speed Cell to your iPhone or PC and it’ll immediately upload your stats to the miCoach site. There, you’ll see your performance- maximum speed, number of sprints, number of high intensity runs, calories burned, total distance and a couple other interesting figures. During the Rose 2.5/miCoach Speed Cell launch, I recorded decent numbers when I was on the floor. It actually makes you want to perform better so that you can improve your stats each and every time you play. What’s great about it is that you can use the miCoach Speed Cell even for non-miCoach compatible shoes and non-adidas shoes to get your stats on.

Oh, and aside from recording and sharing your stats after every performance, adidas also installed a game you can play with online, using your real-time stats. From there, you can compete with your friends online and see who truly is the best. The adidas miCoach Speed Cell is now available in select stores nationwide (see below for store listing). There are two available Speed Cells in the market- one that comes with an iPhone connector (4,695 php) or one with a PC connector (3,995 php).

Using the Rose 2.5 with the miCoach Speed Cell is quite addicting. I automatically upload my stats and see how I performed once I get home from a game or team practice. For more information, you can check out adidas  Philippines’ Facebook page.

With a little over a quarter of the season done and nearing the halfway point,  you’ll see Derrick Rose wearing his latest signature shoe, the adiZero Rose 2.5, in games and most definitely during the All-Star Game. Just a little over a week ago, ball players and friends from the media got to try the Rose 2.5 out a week prior to the official launch. adidas Philippines explained the story and concept behind the 2.5, especially with the shoe being lighter and fit for Rose’s needs for the postseason. adidas also featured the next level of miCoach, the Speed Cell, which measures and keeps track of multi-directional stats when you run, play or train.

Members of the media got to bring home and try out a pair of the inline 2.5s, then participating in a 4-team mini tournament, wherein the winner would bring home a portion of the 60k php pot. Everyone also had a Speed Cell on their 2.5s, which calculated everybody’s performance during the game. Players with the best stats (longest distance, most sprints, etc.) also went home with a couple more prizes. Aside from playing in the 2.5s, adidas had a display of the other colorways of the Rose 2.5. Currently, three are available (Lei Feng/China special edition, Home, and Away), while a couple more are coming out before the month ends. There is the Red/Black combo dubbed as “Dear Mama/Brenda”, which is a tribute to Derrick’s mother and her favorite color. Right around All-Star Weekend, expect the bright orange All-Star colorway to come out as well. A couple other colorways are slated to drop- Memphis Tigers cw, St. Patrick’s, and a black/cement joint for the postseason. Only a select number of stores will carry the special colorways.

Now with the Speed Cell to measure my performance, it makes me want to use the shoe more and see how much calories I burned, distances/sprints I ran, and how much work I put in every run. The special colorway “Lei Feng” is out now and today is the official release of the Home and Away colorways of the Rose 2.5. The inline colorways retail for 6,995 php.

With every release of the DRose line, adidas makes sure to come up with a shoe that truly reflects Rose. Continuing with the Cleared for takeoff theme from the 2.0, you’ll see a Google Earth view of Rose’s hometown of Englewood on the toe box. Red hits are seen throughout the shoe, a nod to his love for city of Wind, Chicago (Illinois). In terms of the tech, the Rose 2.5 is equipped with the SprintFrame and SprintWeb, giving DRose a better, lightweight fit for next level quickness. The 2.5 also uses GeoFit memory foam on the collar, providing superior comfort and fit.

Oh, one more thing that’s great about the Rose 2.5? It only weighs 10.8 oz, the lightest Rose shoe to date. The Rose 2.5 is also miCoach/Speed Cell capable, but I’ll talk about that in the coming days. The Rose 2.0 received great marks all around for its performance on court. Now here’s reigning MVP Derrick Rose’s take on his latest shoe with adidas, the Rose 2.5. In stores February 2.

As we recently celebrated the Chinese New Year the other day, here’s another reason for us to celebrate China. A special colorway of DRose’s latest signature shoe, the  adidas adiZero Rose 2.5, drops today. Although the more traditional colorways of the Rose 2.5 are dropping on the 2nd of February, it’s only fitting to have these drop this week.

For those who aren’t familiar with Lei Feng, he was a soldier of the People’s Liberation Army in China. He was a symbol of selflessness and modesty, that up to this day, is celebrated by the country. Seeing his traits  are similar to how DRose is, the great guys over the Three Stripes put two and two together for this remarkable shoe. The special make up uses the army green color for the upper with red and gold hits throughout. There’s an embossed pattern of a screw on the SprintWeb as well as on the SprintFrame, this is in reference to a diary entry for the never-rusting screw in China’s revolutionary machine. Chinese characters are found on the heel, and to complete the Chinese Army look, faux fur is used in the lining right by the GeoFit ankle padding.

We’ve seen a couple of nice pairs from the collaboration between Canadian outdoor company Ransom and adidas Originals. The Army Trail Mid, in my book, would be one of the better pairs to come out this season (and possibly one of the best from their collection). The shoes uses short grain suede on the upper and a full grain leather patch on the toe box. To give extra comfort, Ransom uses sheepskin to line the footbed. adidas x Ransom uses the same collab logo on the tongue tag and the Ransom logo on the heel.

I really don’t know where Jeremy Scott draws his inspiration from. From sequins to tassels and now using multicolor panels. After releasing the satin Wings 2.0, here’s another 2NE1 collaboration, this time using the first set of JS Wings. Multicolor panels, spotted faux horsehair and big bright yellow wings– if these can’t grab your attention, I don’t know what will.

Here’s another prized pick-up (and a come-up) for the price he picked these up for. PS Fajardo, an editor for the same company I work for (yes folks, I have a day job), sent me his own prized pick-up. He was able to cop these adidas x Slap Magazine Campus Mids for a fraction of the price. Definitely a clean skateboarding shoe from adidas Skateboarding. Oh, and the neat thing about them? The tag on the tongue says “made in the Philippines”. Guess we manufacture collabs for the Three Stripes (either that or dude just bought a couple of knock offs). Regardless, it’s his prized pick-up and he’s happy about ‘em.
